Beyond 1997 to today

In 1997, the government set up Centrelink to deliver social security to Australians. It continued to implement policies and programs that affected Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
Today, Services Australia delivers government payments and services. We're working towards a better future for all Australians through our commitment to reconciliation.
Services Australia is committed to reconciliation in Australia. We believe that by working with the people we serve, our staff, businesses, non–government organisations and other government agencies, we can make a real difference in people’s lives.
We want to build stronger relationships and respect between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non–Indigenous Australians. We want to improve the health and economic opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and their communities which will create a better future for all Australians.
